As I was in Elementary School my teachers would try there
hardest to get some of us to become more poetic. In class we had an author come
and recite some of his poetry. As I listened very close I realized how enjoyable
or motivating the poetry sounded. My teacher explained at the end of the day
that we will be having a competition over what we write. The competition was
called Young Authors. As she explained the competition to us I already knew
what I chose, I went with Poetry.
The minute the bell rang from school I started my piece of
poetry. I enjoyed it as much as I listened to the author reciting his work. The
work I had written was done. The pages were put together and I turned it in to
the competition of Young Authors. As I waited patiently to see the results I noticed
I finally started to realize how enjoyable literature is to me in my life. I
have noticed that as I have grown up and moved on from the Young Authors competition
that literature only gets better.
My teacher is one who I look up to for inviting me to put
literature in my life. The early years of elementary school I was not a fan of
the “English Classes” I enjoyed the fun” Cooking” and “P.E” classes but I was
never able to actually get into Literature. My teacher Mrs. Shears was the
great lady who pushed me to become not only a state winner but a districts
finalist in Young Authors. She was able
to crack my shell and put literature into my life and to start making my own
Poetry.
Poetry is amazing, isn't it? I absolutely love teachers who are able to bring new light and enjoyment to a subject that is traditionally "boring". Way to go on the Young Authors as well :)
ReplyDeleteThats amazing! I for one have never enjoyed writing poetry, but have always loved listening to it. Hopefully I'll become like you one day and will enjoy writing poetry! Congrats on your accomplishments!
